PlayPlace, America has devised discipline policies
for behavior limits to promote consistency throughout all classrooms.
The goal of our program is to emphasize respect for the teachers,
others, materials, and self. All children entering PlayPlace
are automatically given a 2 week probationary period to determine
if there is going to be a behavior problem. During this time,
enrollment can be terminated automatically depending upon certain
behaviors.
The purpose of our discipline policies are to
teach self-control with an emphasis on future correct behaviors.
It is important that children realize there may be consequences
that follow their misbehavior and the things that are directly
related to that behavior. There are also positive reinforcements
that we encourage for good behavior. It may be verbal praise
or rewards, like stickers, stamps, or notes for parents to
see.
Redirection is the key to discipline. We re-direct
the child from the misbehavior rather than isolating him or
her in time-out. If this does not help the problem, notes and
phone calls to parents would be the next step taken before
probation, then depending upon the behavior, termination would
be the last resort.
Many children have a tendency of biting. Our
policy regarding biting is if a child bites 3 times in one
day, or breaks the skin of another child (or staff member),
you will be asked to pick up your child for the rest of the
day. We try everything we can to distract a child from biting
however, if biting continues over a period of time, probation
and termination would be discussed.
